How getDARC uses cookies and similar trackers, why strictly necessary ones are always on, and why everything else loads only after you opt in.
1. About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Tombatossals Softworks LLC ("getDARC", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on getDARC.com. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes the personal data we process and the rights you have over it.
This document is a preview draft published for review and is pending review by counsel. It is not legal advice. Where a term is still being confirmed, we say so plainly rather than imply a certainty we do not have.
2. What cookies and similar trackers are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies, such as local storage, pixels, and software development kit identifiers, perform comparable functions. Throughout this policy we call all of them trackers for brevity.
Trackers can be set by us (first party) or by a service we use (third party). They can last only for a single session or persist across visits. We list the specific trackers we set in the summary below.
3. Our categories
We group trackers into three categories and treat each differently. Only the first is active without your choice.
- Strictly necessary, always on. These make the site work: they keep your session, remember your cart, balance server load, and protect checkout. They cannot be switched off because the site cannot function without them, and they are exempt from consent because they are essential.
- Functional, opt-in only. These remember preferences such as language or interface settings. They stay off until you allow them.
- Analytics, opt-in only. These help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. They stay off until you allow them.
4. Analytics: PostHog
Our only analytics tool is PostHog, which we use to measure how features are used and where flows break. PostHog is consent-gated: it does not load and sets no analytics trackers until you opt in to the analytics category.
The analytics identifiers we use are pseudonymous. We do not sell or share your personal information, and analytics data is retained for a limited period as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. How we ask for consent
Non-essential trackers, meaning functional and analytics, load only after you opt in. Until then, only strictly necessary trackers run.
Our consent banner presents accept, reject, and granular choices at equal prominence. Reject is as easy as accept. We use no pre-checked boxes and no confirmshaming: declining is a plain, unpenalized choice, not one worded to make you feel guilty.
6. Cookies we use
The list below summarizes the trackers we set. Strictly necessary entries are always present; functional and analytics entries appear only after you opt in to their category.
- Session and authentication (strictly necessary): keeps you signed in and protects your account; session or short-lived.
- Cart and checkout (strictly necessary): remembers your build and cart contents through checkout; session or short-lived.
- Security and load balancing (strictly necessary): protects checkout integrity and distributes traffic; session.
- Consent record (strictly necessary): remembers the choices you made here so we do not ask again on every page; persistent.
- Language and interface preferences (functional): remembers your en/es choice and interface settings; persistent.
- PostHog product analytics (analytics): pseudonymous usage and feature events; persistent, retained for a limited period.
7. Managing and withdrawing consent
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie control in the site footer. Withdrawing consent stops the relevant non-essential trackers going forward; it does not affect processing that already took place while consent was in effect.
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser or extension sends GPC, we treat it as an opt-out and do not enable non-essential analytics on that basis. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though disabling strictly necessary trackers may prevent parts of the site from working.
8. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as our trackers or the law change. Material changes bump the version and effective date shown above, and are recorded. The current version always governs.
