Seagate BarraCuda 2TB

Overview

Two terabytes on a single 7200 rpm platter, with a generous 256 MB cache for a desktop drive. One platter means low idle noise and heat, which is about all you can ask of bulk storage. Rated for desktop duty at 55 TB/yr, so keep it out of an always-on array.

    Does the job, nothing more

It is a budget mechanical drive and behaves like one. Fine for cold storage, but for anything important I would spend up to a NAS drive.

    Fine secondary drive

Using it for backups and media that does not need SSD speed. Cheap per gig. No workload rating so I keep it out of my RAID.

    Quiet and cheap

Low idle noise thanks to the single platter. For a secondary bulk drive on a desktop it does exactly what I needed.

    Cheap bulk desktop storage

Single-platter 7200 rpm with a 256MB cache. Quiet at idle and low heat. It is a desktop drive, not for NAS, and it is fine at that.
